About the Academies
Welcome to the Jade Dragon Martial Arts Academy
Martial Arts Practice...
Shaolin Five Ancestor Fist is our Core practice. It is one of the most comprehensive Martial arts available. But...
every martial art system has limitations. Traditional martial arts practice should address 3 areas of development…
- Fighting… Of Course!!!
- Proper physical development
- Proper Self Cultivation…
With this in mind, we supplement Five Ancestor Fist with other martial art styles that enhance our core practice in several ways…
We practice three separate methods of training…
… in order to help you become a complete martial artist. Each style develops specific qualities to help you become the best martial artist you can be. I find Five Ancestor Fist to be the most comprehensive fighting style, so we position this as our core practice. However, we add in Tan Tui/Hua Fist as well as Taoist and Xinyiba training to fill in some developmental gaps in Southern Style Training.
Our Core practice
About Shaolin Five Ancestor Fist
Our primary practice is Shaolin Five Ancestor Fist (AKA-Wuzu Quan or Ngo Cho Kun). Five Ancestor Fist is a Shaolin Southern Style practice that was developed in the Fujian Province (Debatably at the Shaolin Fujian Temple?). The style combines the primary characteristics of White Crane, Lohan Fist, Taizu Quan, Monkey Fist and the internal arts of Damo. We place the heaviest emphasis on the forms, applications and training methods of White Crane (Feeding Crane and Calling Crane) and Southern Shaolin Lohan Fist (Incense Shop Boxing). But, we also have ample practice in the power and application of Taizu Quan and the quickness, toughness and agility of the Monkey Style. We begin teaching the internal practice at beginner level 2.
About Tan Tui & Hua Fist
“If your tan tui is good… your kung fu is good”…
This is an axiom used by many Chinese Martial Arts practitioners and teachers. As I’ve mentioned, ALL martial arts styles have aspects about them that could be considered short comings. We utilize Tan Tui as a developmental style to enhance power, flexibility and explosive power in a way that is different from Five Ancestor Fist. The same is true for Hua Fist (although Hua Fist is taught much later in the curriculum). These styles utilize larger frame movements with deep stances and large movement patterns. This style of movement is very different from our core practice. Surprisingly though, the techniques utilized are typically in close utilizing sweeps, elbow and shoulder strikes and hard physical hand technique.
About…
Xing Ie Chuan
Learn the Explosive Power and Techniques of Hebei Xing Ie Chuan...
Within our Martial Art curriculum at JDMAA, the first internal art we teach is Xing Ie Chuan. There are some practical reasons for this. First, it is energetically the easiest to develop. The power manifestation is not as nearly complex as that of Tai Chi Chuan or Baguazhang. It also has many aspects that are very helpful with developing internal power that feed incredibly well into the Five Ancestor Fist style. We teach this at proficiency level 11 (equivalent to 1st degree black sash).
About…
Taoist/Xinyiba Martial Arts
Xinyiba is an advanced internal/external training method of traditional chinese martial arts, focused on cultivating Qi, developing whole-body internal power, and extracting practical combat techniques from fundamental movements.
Taoist martial arts are traditional Chinese interal/external martial arts that combine physical movement, self defense and combat training encompassing Taoist philosopy, energy cultivtion and internal alchey practice.
We typically teach these arts at the higher proficiency levels. Both supplement any martial practice by connecting the body at a very profound level. They also help with very deep levels of cultivation and internal martial development.
